Monster Rank Points are points you earn when collecting on a Monster.
They are used to determine Guilds' ranks on the Monster Leaderboard. But more importantly, they are very interesting because the loot you're getting from a Monster seems to be directly tied to them.
Definition[]
When you collect on a monster, under the loot text box there's another small text box saying:
<Player Name> honors their Guild, <Guild Name>, by achieving victory against <Monster Name> and earning <points amount> Monster Rank Points!
Here is an example:
Those are the points added to your monthly total for your internal ranking among your guildmates, which you can see on your Guild page under the "Monsters" tab.
There you will find a log of the Rank Points earned by all your guildmates on the left (50 latest entries), and on the right you can see the totals for the ongoing month for each player in the "Top Monster Hunters" leaderboard.
If you check a guild's statistics, the amount of points for the "Monster" line is the sum of all the Monster Rank Points earned by all the members of this guild during the current month.
Example:
You will also find this number on the Monster Leaderboard, and see which guilds have earned the most Monster Rank Points.
The amount of Rank Points you'll earn after defeating a Monster will vary depending on the amount of damage you dealt. However, there is a cap which is different for all monsters. After a certain amount of damage (which varies greatly depending on the monster), the amount of Rank Points will stop increasing.
Usually, the tougher a monster is the more Rank Points you can get from it.
In this article we'll call the highest amount of Rank Points for a monster its "max. Rank Points" value.
Rank Points & Loot theory[]
It looks extremely likely that the loot you will get is directly tied to the amount of Monster Rank Points you will earn when collecting.
Of course, the amount of Rank Points is tied to your Activity (which includes damage and healing), so the loot chance is still tied to the damage dealt.
All Monsters yield different Rank Points amounts. And each Monster can yield a certain number of different Rank Points amounts.
That is, Rank Points don't increase all the time with damage; instead it increases in stages when certain damage amounts are reached. Which means that for different damage amounts, you can get the same amount of Rank Points. In particular, after reaching a certain amount of damage, you will always get the same amount of Rank Points (max. Rank Points).
For instance, dealing 62,767,536 dmg on a Valhalla granted 24,693 Monster Rank Points, and dealing 64,970,056 dmg also granted 24,693 Rank Points. And with 65,029,004 dmg the next threshold was reached, granting 25,545 Rank Points (Valhalla's max. Rank Points). Reaching 80,077,412 dmg still granted 25,545 Rank Points, and even if you killed a Valhalla all by yourself (650,000,000+ dmg) you would still get 25,545 Rank Points.
Activity (damage, healing etc.) seems to be the only factor influencing the amount of Rank Points you will get. However it can happen to deal a bit more damage and get less Rank Points. The reason is currently unknown. For certain Monsters it doesn't seem to happen (Serpents for instance), for others you can deal a few hundred thousands more damage and still get lower Rank Points (Vargulis and Samael for instance), and for some others (more rarely it seems) it's possible to deal more than 1 million damage more and still get lower Rank Points (Verminarch for instance). But most of the time it's quite consistent.
The theory is that with each higher amount of Rank Points, your chance at getting better loot increases. Which would mean that the probability to get a certain number of drops (rare, epic, legendary...) is tiered. It doesn't increase by a tiny amount every time you deal a tiny bit more damage, but only increases suddenly when reaching certain damage thresholds providing higher Rank Points amounts.
This theory has however only been tested for the maximum amount of Rank Points, and not for all intermediate Rank Points amounts (due to the lack of data as this is a recent theory).
Even for the max. Rank Points amounts, data is lacking; but for monsters which can give a 100% chance at their best loot (usually 1 Legendary drop and/or 2 or 3 epic drops), for over a hundred monsters it has never happened not to get the best loot possible while getting the max Rank Points.
While it's been verified that even by doing more damage, if you didn't get the max. Rank Points it was possible not to get a Legendary drop (for example). For instance here are interesting data points for Vargulis:
- 204,535,943 dmg - 1 Legendary drop, 3 Epic drops | 70,875 Monster Rank Points (max)
- 204,650,391 dmg - 3 Epic drops, no Legendary drop | 68,512 Monster Rank Points
Which means that the amount of Rank Points seems to be what really matters in the end.
Max values for all monsters[]
The damage required for Max. Rank Points should be the damage required for the best chance at getting the best loot possible.
Depending on the monster, it can be 100% chance at a Legendary drop and 3 Epic drops, or simply 2 Epic drops, etc.).

If unverified, it's simply the "99%" value taken from the Monster's article for its best drop (for instance "Legendary" for Vargulis, "2 Epics" for Verminarch, etc.).
